The Whales and Dolphins of Pembrokeshire

You don’t have to travel to far off places to see the likes of whales and dolphins in the wild, you can seem them and plenty of other amazing marine life here in British waters. The waters off the Pembrokeshire coast offer one of the very best places in the UK to spot Whales and Dolphins. The next time you are staying in a Pembrokeshire cottage you really should not pass up the opportunity to go and spot some of these magnificent animals.

The deep waters of Pembrokeshire provide a permanent home to Bottlenose Dolphins who live in Cardigan Bay along side harbour porpoises. During the summer months, the area also plays home to thousands of visiting dolphins, many of whom have young calves.

Whales can also be seen passing the tip of Pembrokeshire as they migrate their way through the Irish Sea. Sightings of the Fin Whale are quite common as are the smaller Minke Whale. A less common sight though perhaps even more startling are sights of Humpback Whales and even Killer Whales.

There are a number of great spots along the Pembrokeshire coastline to go whale or dolphin spotting. Playful dolphins can be seen between Poppit and Fishguard, they can also occasionally be seen swimming into Fishguard Harbour and Newport Bay. Porpoises can bee seen between Poppit and Strumble. For more of an up close view you can hope aboard one of the regular whale and dolphin watching trips.
