Is a Life of Travel Calling You?

For many people, the idea of traveling the world is an exciting thought indeed. In fact, some people become so enamored by the lifestyle found in the seats of hotels, planes, and restaurants that they figure out a way to make a life of travel one that pays – and sometimes, it pays quite handsomely.

Before you wake-up one day and declare “I am going to sell my car and all of my earthly belongings, and backpack across the universe” it is best to consider what you could be facing.

A life of travel often makes relationships a challenge. if you are considering having a family, it is a wise thing to consider how your travel will affect them, both immediately and long-term. Sometimes, you can bring them along, and sometimes people are perfectly happy with the “cushion” a little time apart offers. It is not the same for any two people, so think about it.

A life of travel can also be a bit dangerous. Different customs and different regulations means you need to be comfortable in sometimes sticky situations. Many people will find this kind of activity inspiring and thrilling – others will find it frightening and stress-inducing. Know where your own feelings lie before you consider a life of travel.

One way to determine if a life of travel is for you, is to do it in a smaller dose before you take any major plunge. You could take a sabbatical from work or an extended leave, and visit areas in other lands you wish to see. Immerse yourself in other cultures, and allow yourself to see what each has to offer in a unique way. You may find that this is the life you have always wanted – and selling everything that doesn’t fit into a backpack might make perfect sense!
